Construction began in June of 2013 with the demolition of an existing residential structure on the property along with extensive site improvements and the removal of the building envelope. The existing exterior was not energy efficient and was prone to moisture infiltration. It was replaced with an envelope consisting of structural metal stud walls, exterior dens glass sheathing and an exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS). Reconstruction of the building included installation of a new elevator and shaft that required cutting new openings in each of the five levels plus a pit in the basement. The new masonry and concrete shaft walls were designed to act as shear walls. Interior finishes were completed on four of the floors, with the fifth floor left as an open shell space for a future tenant. VINE was able to occupy the space less than 12 months after the start of construction. This facility boasts many nice features including a beautiful panoramic view of Mankato, a synthetic interior walking track, adult respite facilities, numerous activity rooms and areas, a pool, and secure outdoor facilities for adult daycare.
